This match felt like a win eventhough it was only a draw which mean 1 point on the board instead of 3. Still drawing with Chelsea, a team who’s been scoring goals at record pace, is a great accomplishment.
Here’s the Sunderland’s player ratings:
Costel Pantilimon – 8
Controlled things in the box and was very assured at all time. Was able to make good saves.
Santiago Vergini – 8
Verginie had a good match, although he had a very nervous moment on the defense end. Almost score a goal.
Wes Brown – 8
Best match for Wes Brown in a while. Never was troubled which is very good if you consider the fact it was Chelsea and Diego Costa he had to deal with.
John O’Shea – 9
Another good performance by O’Shea. Just when I though it was time for John to retire, he goes out and put up some terrific forms. Alongside es Brown, he did a great job keeping Chelsea and Costa off the scoring sheet.
Anthony Reveillere – 8
Played well once again. He’s been the signing of the year so far. Was part of the backline 4 that kept Chelsea under complete control. Hazard and the Other Chelsea attackers never stood a chance.
Lee Cattermole – 9
Great performance by Lee Cattermole. Deserve a call up into the England National team after this performance.
Jack Rodwell – 7
Did well and held his own. Not as good as Cattermole but did enough.
Seb Larsson – 8
Broke up more than a few passes and made himself a nuisance during the entire match. Was good defensively. Not much offensively.
Adam Johnson – 8
Best performance from dam Johnson in a while.Had a decent match on both side of the ball and managed to almost score in a few attempts on goal.
Connor Wickham – 8
Was good for the most part, but lost the ball a bit too much for my liking.
Steven Fletcher – 7
Was anonymous for the most part, but maned to hold a few balls. Never threaten the Chelsea back-line.
Jordi Gomez (Sub) – 7
Played better than the man he replaced which was Jack Rodwell. Created a few chances.
Jozy Altidore (Sub) – 8
Best match from Jozy so far which is not saying much since he’s been so poor. Truly troubled Chelsea back-line, unlike Fletcher who was handcuffed throughout the game.
